How Produce, Christmas Trees and the Weather Affect Your Transportation Costs by David Chavez

In the transportation industry, season and location equal money. For example, during the summer months, it’s difficult and costly to buy transportation in the Southern states of Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee due to the high demand for produce transportation. During the winter months, buying equipment for a reasonable rate in these states is not a problem. The winter months are problematic in the Northwest due to the volume of Christmas trees being shipped, as well as the quantity of goods coming in from ports and being distributed nationwide. The Midwest is never inexpensive since transportation demands are high year round, and in contrast, the East Coast is reasonable year round due to an abundance of available carriers. Although most shipments can’t wait for the seasons to change, it’s good know what to expect.
